Let’s find out!

Should You Cover Hot Bread?

Yes, but not all of it. It is said that the best time to cover something is when it is at its peak. The hot bread is best when it is hot. But this doesn’t mean you should cover the bread the entire day.

In fact, if you cover it for too long, it will get soggy, stale or moldy. Use the same rule when covering cakes as well. Basically anything which contains a bit of moisture inside.

1.      Soggy

So you just made some delicious, hot bread. You’ve slaved over the oven for hours, kneading the dough, letting it rise, punching it down, letting it rise again, then finally, you bake it in the oven.

It smells amazing. And when you take your loaf out of the oven, you’re excited to eat it. So, you carefully wrap it in aluminum foil or put it in a plastic bag to keep it fresh, but then you notice that the bread has gotten soggy. What happened? Why did your bread get soggy?

The simple answer to this is because of the evaporation.

2.      Eating Immediately Will Be A Good Idea

It would be a good idea to eat freshly baked bread immediately.

The smell of freshly baked bread can attract many people, especially children. Often, children will be tempted to eat the bread right away it comes out from the oven.

If you are eating bread that is still very warm, you can end up with stomach aches. This is because the bread will not yet have the fermented properties, so it will cause irritation in your stomach.

3.      Losing Flavor

If you love bread, you’ll know that fresh is the best. Just ask the Italians! But as with so many other foods, fresh bread can lose its flavor when you cover the bread right after it comes out of the oven.

That’s because bread contains starch, which swells as it absorbs moisture from the air. This is great if you’re making bread, but not so great if you want to keep it fresh. So how can you keep bread fresh and flavorful without industrial tools?

Pretty simple, don’t cover the bread.
